Looking back on the exhibition days in Paris ten years ago, I still remember the scale of it all: the later acclaim, the media coverage, more than a year of preparation, and nearly two years of touring between China and France. Traveling back and forth so many times and participating in every stage of a large cross-border art exhibition was a real test of endurance. It was during that process that I unknowingly stepped onto the path of art.

The 2013 “ChiFra Sino-French Art Exhibition” has now been ten years behind me. That major exhibition in Paris not only connected me with art and with artists from both China and France, but also quietly led me toward my own creative life. What is even more unexpected is that, ten years later, my own works are still being shown in a gallery in Paris. Looking back, it all feels like a kind of destiny, or perhaps a calling.

The artistic path has never been easy. It does not matter much what art-related work you once did, or how many art-world people you happened to know. What truly matters is the kind of person you choose to become, and the kind of work you are able to create. In the end, the work must speak for itself. To pursue an artistic life, to tell the story of life through art, to treat everyday living with artistic seriousness, and to truly live with art at the center of one’s being — that is the essence of it all.
